Macario De Souza is an award-winning filmmaker and musician. His work focuses on storytelling, youth culture and music.
He has directed scripted drama, feature-length documentaries and TV Series’ including 6 Festivals, Bra Boys, Fighting Fear (AACTA Best Direction & Cinematography), The Crew, South Side Story and Football Superstar, with national and global releases on the likes of Paramount+, Netflix, ABC, CH9, GO! and Fox Sports. This has lead him to work with a slew of household names including Russell Crowe, Joel Edgerton and Mick Fanning.
Macario’s portfolio of music projects includes visuals for artists such as Ed Sheeran, Midnight Oil, twenty one pilots, Amy Shark, Example, Baker Boy, Bernard Fanning, Sampa The Great, Masked Wolf and Dune Rats. He also directed and produced a featurelength music documentary on one of the world’s most prolific songwriters Poo Bear (Justin Bieber, Usher, Pink).
Macario’s debut scripted drama, 6 Festivals, premiered at the 2022 Sydney Film Festival followed by Melbourne International Film Festival, with a theatrical and global streaming release on Paramount+.
An AACTA and QMUSIC award winner, and Daily Telegraph’s Top 40 Australian Music Power List 2022, De Souza continues to be a significant figure in the Australian arts scene and is known for his bold and thought-provoking work across multiple mediums.
